A Shift In Direction

The start of this year has marked a clear refinement in my work.
In January, I worked as the Makeup Designer on a short period drama directed by Toby Parker Rees. Gabriel- Ernest, set in the early 1900s, required character-led looks across four principal cast members. Designing within the Edwardian era required research and a strong understanding of structure — both hairstyling and makeup needed to feel authentic while translating clearly on camera.
It reinforced something I’ve become increasingly aware of: I’m drawn to intentional detail. To hair and makeup that serves narrative, character and overall image with precision.
In February, after working on an editorial project in London, for fashion designer Stevie Crowne, that direction for me sharpened further. The environment demanded clarity and structure — defined placement, controlled finishes and confident execution. His strong ethos behind his 'Heart of a Titan' AW26 collection spoke to something deeper within me.
A deeper discipline. A sharper eye. A refusal to hide behind softness.
Across both projects, the common thread was discipline behind the aesthetic. They have mirrored where I am creatively - refining, editing and stripping back the unnecessary. Whether historical or contemporary, I’m most engaged when the work feels considered, elevated and directional.
I am drawn to projects that value precision, narrative, integrity and modern authority. As we welcome in the Lunar new year, I can't help but feel that this shift reflects well as we start our journey into the year of 'The Fire Horse'. A time that encourages us to make changes and favours decisive action.
This is just the beginning and I am so thankful to my entire community. Check back and stay connected for future updates and thought sharing posts!
